Amazon.co.uk Review
When it was announced that Tom Cruise would play the vampire Lestat in this adaptation of Anne Rice's bestselling novel, even Rice chimed in with a highly publicised objection. The author wisely and justifiably recanted her negative opinion when she saw Cruise's excellent performance, which perceptively addresses the pain and chronic melancholy that plagues anyone cursed with immortal bloodlust. Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst are equally good at maintaining the dark and brooding tone of Rice's novel. And in this rare mainstream project for a major studio, director Neil Jordan compensates for a lumbering plot by honouring the literate, Romantic qualities of Rice's screenplay. Considered a disappointment while being embraced by Rice's loyal followers, Interview with the Vampire is too slow to be a satisfying thriller, but it is definitely one of the most lavish, intelligent horror films ever made. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars the original and best vampire story   August 27, 2010

tom at his best a brilliant film my youngest daughter who is 22 is a twilight fanatic showed her this and she was very impressed

5 out of 5 stars Louis, Louis, Louis. Still whining Louis!   July 10, 2010
Tohru (DEVON!! ooh arr!)
THIS is what started it all for me. As a wee lass of about 10 me and my gran settled down to movie one evening. And this was it!

I've always had a fascination with the macabre and dark fantasy. Even as a young child I was more into the classic horror films than disney.

This film changed my life! It opened a whole new world of dark fiction to me.

I was entranced. And since I have read and seen any book or film of the same ilk.

Tom Cruise is a fantastic Lestat and little Kirsten Dunst is the best Claudia they could have created. Bradd Pitt makes a fabulous attempt at Louis, but he's a little to broad and manly. Gets the dialogue down to a tee though.

My only problem with this film? Antonio Banderas. I love him as an actor, but the role of Armand was cast completely wrong. It's not Banderas' fault he hasn't got shoulder length, curly GINGER hair. And it also is not his fault he is not eternally SEVENTEEN.

That small misdemeanor aside, Banderas executes Armand's lines with overwhelming conviction and passion.

If you havn't read the books, this film is best thing since sliced bread. If you have read 'em, it's still a small triumph. It is so close to the actual book that the small creative allowances don't even matter.

Beautifully acted, gorgeous settings and costumes and best of all a captivating and spellbinding story.

Watch it!

I have seen Twilight and New Moon and they are good fun, but this is the Real Deal.
The film almost plays out like a Real Life Story, it is very believable.
It makes the whole Vampire Lifestyle very appealing. Lol
The story captivates from beginning to end and the direction is Top Notch as is the Soundtrack.
On the Acting front firstly you have to acknowledge the Amazing Cast
And from this cast Tom Cruise takes Top honours with his Dastardly Bad Guy turn, which he really seemed to enjoy playing.
Brad Pitt comes a close second in what seemed quite a difficult role. Kirsten Dunst is Amazing in one of here earlier performances.
Antonio Banderas adds a certain Class to proceedings and Christian Slater is good in a small but important role
